BIG and BG Container Glass have collaboratively signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at scrutinizing methods of preventing carbon dioxide emissions from glass and plastic packaging production processes. This initiative will leverage BIG’s innovative Carbon Accounting Platform, designed to monitor and mitigate carbon footprints, elevate energy management practices in the packaging industry and jointly explore the integration of climate technology to enhance sustainability in production processes.
The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was a momentous occasion, graced by Khun Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director of BIG, and Khun Silparat Watthanakasetr, Chief Executive Officer of BG Container Glass Public Company Limited (BGC). This collaborative effort is poised to fortify their joint commitment to driving innovation through climate technology, focusing on the reduction of carbon emissions in the production of glass and plastic packaging at BGC. The partnership signifies a pivotal step toward establishing guidelines for sustainable energy management, aligning with BGC’s ambitious target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The MoU underscores the shared commitment of both companies to conduct business in accordance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, highlighting its significance in fostering value-driven operational excellence and propelling innovation.

Beyond carbon accounting, BIG and BGC are jointly exploring the implementation of an unprecedented project, using cutting-edge technology to enable hydrogen to be used as an alternative fuel source in glass furnaces. This endeavor seeks to leverage cleaner and more efficient energy, extending to the use of hydrogen fuel in forklift trucks, enabling them to be powered by hydrogen energy. This venture is currently undergoing testing within the company’s factories.
