BIG has partnered with the Excise Department to formalize a cooperation agreement aimed at managing, monitoring, and analyzing strategies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions associated energy use and maintenance. This initiative includes promoting efficient energy utilization, which will lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of BIG’s Carbon Management Platform. This platform is designed to identify sources of carbon emissions and calculate the organization’s carbon footprint, thereby enhancing energy management for the agency. Additionally, this partnership will explore the application of climate technologies beyond the industrial sector.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officiated over by Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Director General of the Excise Department, and Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director of BIG, at the Excise Department headquarters in Bangkok. This collaboration signifies a significant step in the partnership between a government agency and a private sector entity, demonstrating their commitment to harnessing climate technology innovation for the monitoring and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Director General of the Excise Department, remarked, “Amidst the swiftly changing climate conditions impacting every facet globally, the Excise Department recognizes and prioritizes the significance of this matter. Hence, we are vigorously driving efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions comprehensively. Progress has been made in various policies and measures aimed at transitioning the country towards Carbon Neutrality and achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions. This includes initiatives such as the EV 3.0 and EV 3.5 electric vehicle policies, bioplastic adoption, carbon taxation, and more. In addition to the pivotal role of the Department in propelling national policies towards Net Zero, various measures have been implemented within the organization itself. These measures encompass promoting resource conservation and maximizing resource efficiency across all dimensions.

This MOU will enable the Department to accurately measure carbon emissions and implement efficient energy utilization methods. The insights gained will inform guidelines for enhancing overall resource management to achieve the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across all Excise Department offices nationwide. This initiative aligns with the Excise Department’s strategy to drive economic growth through excise taxes while prioritizing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, thereby establishing international standards and steering Thailand towards sustainability.”

Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director of BIG, added, “BIG is a recognized leader in climate technology innovation and a trailblazer in energy transition for Thailand’s industrial sector. As a subsidiary of Air Products from the United States, known for its steadfast dedication to global sustainability, BIG prioritizes the sustainable use of energy. Our proprietary Carbon Management Platform offers comprehensive capabilities for managing, monitoring, and analyzing carbon emissions. This cutting-edge technology is now poised for implementation in the government sector for the first time, facilitating precise monitoring of energy usage and maintenance while championing efficient energy utilization. With BIG’s Carbon Management Platform, agencies can strategically plan energy use and pinpoint carbon emission sources to accurately calculate their carbon footprint. This pivotal advancement will significantly enhance energy management, particularly aiding the Excise Department in its pursuit of achieving net-zero emissions. This initiative underscores BIG’s unwavering commitment to ‘Generating a Cleaner Future’ in collaboration with all sectors.”
