BIG has been granted the Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) label certification for its hydrogen gas products by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO). This certification is bestowed upon hydrogen produced by BIG, which slashes carbon emissions by an impressive 95%, equivalent to the production of blue hydrogen. This recognition not only lends support to the Thai industrial sector relying on BIG’s hydrogen but also bolsters confidence in its usage. Furthermore, it enhances the capacity and competitiveness of Thai products in the global market, where the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions holds paramount significance.
Last year, BIG achieved the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) certification for its low-carbon industrial gas production. This accomplishment was made possible through an innovative air separation plant that harnesses the cold energy generated during the LNG Regasification process, marking a pioneering achievement not only in Thailand but also in Southeast Asia. This innovative approach significantly reduces electricity consumption in industrial gas production, indirectly resulting in a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with electrical energy use. This translates to a remarkable reduction of over 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. In the current year, BIG has received the Carbon Footprint Label certification for its hydrogen gas products. The hydrogen produced through BIG’s innovative process emits a mere 875 grams of carbon per 1 kilogram of hydrogen, in stark contrast to the 13,000 to 13,500 grams of carbon emitted by hydrogen from conventional production processes. Consequently, hydrogen from BIG’s process contributes minimally to carbon emissions, with a reduction of up to 95% compared to standard hydrogen production methods, making it equivalent to the production of Blue Hydrogen.
Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, the Managing Director of BIG, stated, “The hydrogen produced by BIG emits carbon at levels equivalent to blue hydrogen. This marks another significant achievement for BIG, showcasing our commitment to fostering innovation and driving the industrial sector with Climate Technology to combat global warming issues. BIG has consistently invested in technological advancements to produce gases while minimizing carbon emissions. By obtaining certification from the TGO, this represents yet another proactive step taken by BIG in our journey towards achieving a faster reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, aiming to reach Net Zero ahead of the country’s target set for 2065.”
BIG places significant emphasis on the adoption of low-carbon hydrogen, which is widely recognized as a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative energy source, particularly within the automotive sector. In partnership with PTT and the Toyota Group, BIG has successfully established the first hydrogen refueling station not only in Thailand but also across Southeast Asia. This pioneering effort is aimed at promoting the use of fuel cell electric vehicles, initially in the form of Airport Limousines, catering to the transportation needs of tourists and passengers in the Pattaya – Chonburi area and adjacent regions, streamlining their journeys to and from U-Tapao Airport. BIG is unwavering in its commitment to collaborating with all sectors to collectively steer the energy transition and actively pursue the overarching objective of attaining net-zero carbon emissions
