What is Liquefied Natural Gas?
Liquefied Natural Gas or LNG is a type of petroleum derived from decomposing plants and animals beneath the earth’s surface for over millions years. With massive heat and pressure, these remains of organisms were transformed into petroleum.
The production process of LNG begins with natural gas separation processes where impurities and heavy hydrocarbon are removed. Then, natural gas is cooled to minus 160 degrees Celsius and becomes liquid. LNG is 600 times smaller in volume than natural gas in its gaseous form, which makes it easier for transportation. The common mean of LNG transportation is by ship. The next transportation means can be through pipeline network or by tube trailer.
LNG is used as fuel in the industrial sector. It has to be converted back into its gaseous form before using. LNG is clear, colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-corrosive and environment-friendly.

LNG’s Characteristics
- High-combustion efficiency with no soot
- Environment friendly with lower CO2 emission
- Lighter than air and completely dissipate in case of leakage
- Cost-efficiency than other types of petroleum fuels such as oil and fuel oil
