PTT – BIG together announced the construction project of Air Separation Unit, which relies on cold energy from condition changing process of LNG. This is the first Air Separation Unit in Thailand under Map Ta Phut Air Products Co. Ltd., with an investment cost of over 1,500 million Thai Bahts. The Air Separation Unit will be able to produce industrial gas for 450,000 tons per year at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate.

9 November 2019 – Mr. Chansin Treenuchagron, President and Chief Executive Officer, PTT Public Company Limited, led the stone laying ceremony for the construction project of the country’s first Air Separation Unit (ASU) which applies cold energy from condition changing process of LNG. The construction project is operated under Map Ta Phut Air Products Co., Ltd. (MAP). This project is aimed to respond needs of industrial gas, to support production process of future industry or New S-Curve (that is a factor driving important economic activities with innovations), to enhance the country’s competitiveness capability, and to encourage medical use of industrial gas which is likely to be more engaging in the future.

Mr. Chansin Treenuchagron, President and Chief Executive Officer, PTT Public Company Limited, mentioned that Air Separation Unit project is a cooperation to develop innovations between PTT Public Company Limited and Bangkok Industrial Gas Company Limited. (BIG). The air separation is an advantageous use of cold energy from condition changing process of LNG. Recently, some amount of this cold energy has been released to sea, thus the project will reduce production cost with the most efficient use of energy which is also environmental-friendly. Air separation unit can further decrease an omission of Greenhouse gas for 28,000 tons per year and diminish the waste of cold water from PTT LNG to ocean for 2,500 tons per hour. Moreover, the unit can increase economic value which is consistent to the government policy – Thailand 4.0.

Mr. Sakchalerm Sittiwong, President of Map Ta Phut Air Products Co. Ltd. (MAP) revealed that this Air Separation Unit project in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong, costs over 1,500 million Bahts and can produce industrial gas more than 450,000 tons per year. It will be the first Air Separation Unit in Thailand which utilizes cold energy from condition changing process of LNG that can result in productions of industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and argon. The production of these gases can broaden competitiveness for the country’s industrial sector as well as generate the most efficiency use of energy. Meanwhile, nitrogen from this Air Separation Unit could be used for improving other innovation in conserving quality and freshness of fruits before taking to cold storage. Hence, it can enhance the quality of life for Thai’s farmers while focusing on the government’s policy to drive Thailand toward becoming a fruit capital of the world.
