Bangkok,29 Apr 2021 – Bangkok Industrial Gas Company Limited (BIG), Thailand’s Innovative Industrial Gas Solutions, and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (Air Products), a parent company in the USA, supported medical oxygen containers and relevant equipment from Thailand to support medical treatment for critical Covid-19 patients in India. With cooperation from Indian Air Force, medical oxygen was smoothly transported from Suvarnabhumi Airport to India last week.
“At present, India is facing critical oxygen shortage, which leads to the high fatality rate. BIG and Air Products has assigned an engineering team from BIG to help supply oxygen and containers urgently. With assistance from Cryotech Asia Company Limited – the leading liquefied oxygen vessel producer – along with Best Global Logistics Company Limited and partners, we successfully delivered a planeload of oxygen and containers to our agent in India by the Indian Air Force. BIG is proud to help India on behalf of Thailand.” Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director of Bangkok Industrial Gas Company Limited said.
In Thailand, the new wave of Covid-19 has immensely undermined both industrial and social sectors. As the number of new patients is growing, BIG has prepared to supply liquefied medical oxygen to meet with the increasing demand from critical patients. BIG’s technological potentiality has been drawn to alleviate this crisis by increasing the liquefied medical oxygen production capacity to help the Covid-19 patients.
BIG has restarted the first air separation unit or ASU Plant 1 which is located in Map Ta Phut industrial estate. Although the plant does not operated during the normal hours, it still has a potential capacity to produce oxygen. According to Mr. Piyabut, the restart of ASU Plant One will help increase oxygen production capacity and meet with the demand for oxygen at another 30% from the current demand.
“The new wave of Covid-19 is severe as seen in the accumulated number of confirmed cases and the higher number of critical patients compared with the previous waves. Therefore, the demand for medical oxygen is likely to increase as well. BIG operates this ASU plant to produce oxygen and meet with the growing demand.”
Mr. Piyabut also added, “Being Thailand’s biggest oxygen producer with the production capacity of 1,000 tons per day which is larger than the current demand for medical oxygen at approximately 300 tons per day, we get our production-ready to assure that Thailand will never experience oxygen shortage like in many countries. Today, BIG has restarted one more ASU plant to help restart Thailand through this crisis together. BIG would like to be a part to inspire everyone to initiate, help and support our medical personnel and our country for all Thai people.”
