November 8, 2022 – Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, President and Chief Executive Officer, PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) Mr. Wisarn Chawalitanon, Acting Chief Executive Officer, PTT Oil and Retail Public Company Limited (OR) Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director, Bangkok Industrial Gas Company Limited (BIG) Mr. Prasanna Ganesh, Executive Vice President, Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TDEM) and Mr. Noriaki Yamashita, President, Toyota Motor Thailand Company Limited (TMT) recently altogether opened Thailand’s first hydrogen refueling station (HRS) for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) at Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. In this occasion, Toyota Mirai, FCEV, will be demonstrated as a limousine service between U-Tapao International Airport and Pattaya, Chonburi province so that the technical data could be gathered for ensuring good performance and creating technology trend awareness.

Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, President and Chief Executive Officer, PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) revealed that PTT has a zero-tolerance policy against climate change by aiming to achieve net zero by 2050 and places a high value on cooperation with partnerships in order to collectively support Thailand towards such goal. PTT also believes that investing in clean energy technology, such as hydrogen, is a necessity to help Thailand effectively reach its goals of becoming carbon neutral. However, using hydrogen as fuel is a novel innovation for Thailand that calls for experience, knowledge, and high-value investment. This time, five of the industry’s top partners in the energy and automotive sectors worked together to build consumer trust in future delivery of the highest level of security and international standards. By facilitating both the infrastructure installation and technical knowledge of the hydrogen gas filling system, PTT shows a commitment and determination to conduct business with social and environmental sustainability in all aspects.

Mr. Wisarn Chawalitanon, Acting Chief Executive Officer, PTT Oil and Retail Public Company Limited (OR), said: Due to the current momentum of the energy consumption trends in travel and transportation, electric cars are gaining more and more attention from consumers. One of OR’s missions is to provide Seamless Mobility, so as to touch the needs of all consumers and businesses, regardless of fuel types they need for their trips. This is to ensure a seamless energy transition as well as to strive and drive the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in travel and transportation within the country. Also, it is to develop the EV business and bring us to the leading position of the fully integrated EV ecosystem. The erection of the hydrogen station for FCEVs this time is a significant springboard that equips OR with potential to lead the EV Ecosystem in all dimensions. FCEV users are not required to shift their refueling behavior as filling hydrogen for passenger cars takes only 5 minutes, thus addressing the needs of modern consumers who prefer time-saving and convenient services. Moreover, the launch is to strengthen the confidence of both existing and potential FCEV users, as well as dealers, towards service quality and standards, benefiting the growth of the EV market. In the near future, further development of hydrogen power for larger FCEV segments such as buses and trucks will be achieved, which will definitely save time for refueling, unlock more transportation trips, and serve as another option to multiply profits for businesses. On top of that, the launch also resonates with OR’s 2030 goals in part of the environment whereby it aims at building a healthy environment and accomplishing carbon neutrality within 2030. This green achievement will lay the foundation for the company to reach the goal of becoming a net-zero organization in 2050.

Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director, Bangkok Industrial Gas Company Limited (BIG) revealed that BIG aims to be a leader in innovation and technology called Climate Technology Company, to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions by adopting Hydrogen innovation, which is the current world direction in diminishing the gas. We have collaborated with 5 partners to bring innovation from hydrogen gas for usage in the automotive industry that is Thailand’s first hydrogen refueling station. BIG’s hydrogen is clean energy from eco-friendly production technology. Besides, BIG has also planned to develop both low-carbon and carbon-free hydrogen in the future, together with other leading organizations in Thailand. The innovation and technology on hydrogen have been brought from the parent company, Air Products, the world’s leader in low-carbon and free-carbon hydrogen gas technologies and reassure for this modern technology as well as safety standards. Furthermore, BIG focuses on supporting the industrial sector in continually providing knowledge and innovations about hydrogen to meet the corporate goal of Thailand’s hydrogen innovation leadership. Now, the use of hydrogen gas as a fuel in the automotive production is an important step in driving Thailand to meet the Net Zero Emissions target.

Mr. Prasanna Ganesh, Executive Vice President, Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TDEM) emphasized Toyota commitment towards Carbon Neutrality, we were among the initiative companies to set Carbon Neutrality target in 2050. With our believe in multiple pathways, Toyota committed to offer different electrification and clean technologies to reach carbon neutrality with speed and scale. We also pursue our mission in decarbonization for the whole vehicle life cycle. We see great potential in Hydrogen because of its multiple usages and benefits, from production to storage, distribution to usage in various sectors. Toyota has first launched FCEV Mirai, which means the future, in 2014 and the 2nd generation in 2021. Toyota vision in a carbon free society and in particular, carbon free mobility for all, can only become reality if all relevant stakeholders are going to converge and collaborate towards the same purpose. As I was one of two founding members of Hydrogen Council in 2016, I am determined to bring hydrogen technology into reality in daily mobility, and would like to encourage all stakeholders to work together in spreading an awareness and passion for the most abundant element in the Universe, or Hydrogen.

Mr. Noriaki Yamashita, President, Toyota Motor Thailand Company Limited (TMT) revealed that “Toyota is committed to challenge the Carbon Neutrality by 2050. But we are living in a diversified world and in an era in which…it is hard to predict the future. Therefore, Toyota wants to prepare as many options as possible for our customers around the world. Toyota takes the “Multiple Pathway Strategy” towards the carbon neutrality, with a variety of powertrain technology such as HEV, PHEV, BEV, FCEV and more. This is following our principle of “Mobility for all” and “Leave No One Behind”. In order to understand the insight of the people, we collaborated in this demonstration project, aiming to offer the experience to the people, with our variety of electrified vehicles. The fuel cell electric vehicle or Mirai, in the demonstration project will provide another option to serve various needs for the customers. Hydrogen is considered another alternative energy because it is a clean source of energy with no adverse environment impact through the entire process. But in order to achieve the carbon neutrality, Toyota cannot build a groundwork for the entire transformation only by ourselves, and we need to have the cooperation and support from the like-minded partners especially in the infrastructure. And with the collaboration with Bangkok Industrial Gas, PTT, and OR the first hydrogen fueling station in Thailand was opened today. It will be the great day and makes step forwards to support “Multiple Pathway Strategy” towards the carbon neutrality in Thailand.”
